Headingley Development Trust is proposing to develop the empty primary school building on Bennett Road into a Headingley Enterprise and ARTs centre- HEART - as visualised above.

We have been offered £1 for £1 match funding by the Adventure Capital Fund –

Transforming an empty school into
Headingley's biggest ever community project

The Plan: The school will be refurbished to accommodate:

●

Performance, exhibition and meeting space on the ground floor

●

Two large training rooms
●

A café with (quiet!) outdoor and conservatory seating areas
●

A ‘Catalyst’ business centre on the first floor particularly targeted at the arts and media industry that should generate 5 – 10 new businesses a year

The Impact: Besides the advantages of keeping the school in community use and introducing much needed facilities to central Headingley, we believe HEART will:

Create a cultural buzz to Headingley

●

Provide a space that all residents of Headingley can enjoy

●

Secure the local business base

●

Encourage graduates to stay on and make Headingley their permanent home

Looking for space in Headingley?
Interested in being part of an exciting community initiative?
 Then we want, and NEED to, hear from you.

Bear in mind that we are talking about space that won’t be available for at least 18 months.

  • We need to hear from groups, organisations, and companies who know that they would use the space if it became available.

  • Complete an Expression of Interest Form and return to us ASAP.
     

●  Potential café tenant
  We want to hear from any experienced caterers who share our vision for the space, and want to develop an innovative new business as a central feature of the building. It has the potential to provide best outside eating area in Headingley!
● Potential users of the building
  We need to identify groups and organisations likely to rent the training and performance spaces. An expression of interest form is downloadable from the website.
● Potential users of the catalyst
  We want to hear from individuals seeking to start up a business in Headingley, particularly arts-related enterprises.

Success at this stage also depends on evidence
of community support which can be shown by:

●  Individuals and businesses investing in HEART through buying shares
  The share prospectus is now available on the website and from the Trust office.
